From January 11 until January 21, 2011, at the Physics and Mathematics Sciences Department, University of Concepción, will be held the second version of the Summer School of Optics and Photonics organized by CEFOP, whose main objective is to gather, for two weeks, all Latin American scientists in the field, to update the progress of investigations being carried out and share work experiences.
Last year’s meeting was attended by 70 participants, including researchers and graduate and undergraduate students in physics and engineering, from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Chile, mostly. And had seven courses taught by distinguished professors, such as Arturo Lezama of the University of the Republic of Uruguay, Francisco de Zela of the Pontifical Catholic University of Lima, Guilherme B. Xavier of the Pontificia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, Janos Bergou of the City University of New York, Leonardo Neves of CEFOP, Oscar N. Mesquita of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais and Paulo H. Souto Ribeiro of the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.
This year, unlike last year, the School will include a poster session to which each participant must submit an abstract attach to their registration form. Meanwhile, the courses will be delivered by teachers Marcelo Martinelli of the University of São Paulo, Paolo Mataloni of the University di Roma, Wallon Nogueira of CEFOP, Sebastião de Pádua of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais and Aephraim Steinberg of the University of Toronto. Is important to inform that students from cities outside Concepción may apply to a limited scholarship, for financial support for living expenses, also through the registration form.
