Once again, a member of the Center for Optics and Photonics, CEFOP, at Universidad de Concepción, was selected among 50 young people by “Líderes del Sur”, which each year, traditionally El Sur newspaper organizes. It was the turn of Rodrigo Fuentes Inzunza (32), Doctor in Physical Sciences and member of Technological Development and Technology Transfer division team at our Center.
The tabloid recognition seeks to highlight the commitment and dedication of young people in various areas as social, academic, scientific, sports, innovation and entrepreneurship.
In this context, Dr. Fuentes was selected, in Sciences area, due to his specialized experience in parts for optical instruments development, especially for telescopes, and his experience at the observatories of Cerro Tololo (2005) and TIGO (2007-2008), also his internship at the University of New Mexico (2008-2009), in the US, added to the practice of aero-modeling and bicycle ride long travels, such as an expedition to Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia (2008), among others.
During the ceremony, that this Wednesday December 17 was held at Universidad Santo Tomás Aula Magna in Concepción, and was led by the Provincial Governor, María Andrea Reyes, director of the El Sur newspaper, Mauricio Rivas, highlighted the role these 50 novice leaders must play in development of Biobío.
“We have an obligation to transfer all our experiences to them and give them our full support, so they can take the course of this changing society. Gradually, we must open up larger spaces. Young are not the future, but the present in body and soul. I congratulate those recognized for their ability to project leadership, from their different fields of action”, said the director of the regional prominent social media.
“I receive this award with joy, both for me and for my family and humbly, grateful for my nomination on behalf of the Center in 2015. By far, the goals achieved throughout the years are directly linked, thanks to all CEFOP support and confidence, which has been placed in me, from my training as a student until this new labor phase, enriching my personal growth and development” were the words of the honoree, Dr. Rodrigo Fuentes, who for work reasons, could not be present at the ceremony and was represented by his proud mother, Nancy Inzunza.
The director of Technology Development CEFOP, Dr. Rolando Hernández highlighted the recognition obtained by Dr. Fuentes who has specialized media publications internationally recognized patents –CL 03741-2013: “Passive instrument for the detection of aerosols and tropospheric trace gases under all weather conditions”, for example, in addition to his participation in conferences, lectures and trade fairs.
Other CEFOP members who have been included in previous versions of “Líderes del Sur” are physician Dr. Juan Pablo Staforelli (2012), from Instrumentation and Sensing Technologies Division; and civil engineer Mg. Mauricio Arenas (2013), who is Project Manager in Development and Technology Transfer Department.
